Have you stalled on seeing the America I AM exhibition at the Atlanta Civic Center? Best head out soon before it’s gone. Atlanta is the second stop on the America I AM: The African-American Imprint exhibition’s four-year tour across the country. America I AM brings together artifacts, documents, music, photos, and more to highlight the, history, contributions and cultural influences of African Americans in the U.S. over the past 500 years.
You’ll see the “Doors of No Return,” which enslaved Africans passed through in Ghana to board ships to the “New World;” Malcom X’s journal and personal Koran; the robe Muhammad Ali wore during training for “Rumble in the Jungle,” the typewriter Alex Haley used to write “Roots,” and more.
Through September 18, 2009, you can buy one adult ticket and get one free using this flyer from WSB-TV at the box office. If you prefer to order tickets online, use promo code “family” at checkout. Limit 8 per transaction.
The cheapest tickets you can buy (without a promo code for a better deal) are at participating Wal-Marts. Tickets are $10 for adults & $4 for children ages 3-12. Wal-Mart doesn’t have senior tickets, but those 65 & up get an extra break—their tickets are $8 each (with ID).
America I AM will be at the Atlanta Civic Center through September 27, 2009. 395 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta. 404-523-6275.
