For those of you who have lost your health insurance in recent months, take note: On Saturday, August 29, you can take advantage of free screenings for heart health, cholesterol, diabetes, breast cancer & more at the free 2009 Atlanta Health & Wellness Expo. There’ll be mobile mammography & blood donation available, too, but you’ll need to make an advance reservation— info@2daywalk.org.
A few quick things to keep in mind:
1) If you want a cholesterol reading that’s closer to accurate, you should fast first. It sucks, I know. I’m scheduled for a physical in a few weeks, and I’m cut off from midnight until 1 p.m. the next day (water only).
2) I love services like this because it gives people a way to get a glimpse of some key health indicators without a trip to the doctor, especially when times are tight. But truly, you can’t replace your physician; they look at your overall health and can guide you as to how to make necessary—and appropriate—changes to your lifestyle. As soon as you can afford to make it happen, head back to the doctor for a complete physical.
The Atlanta Health & Wellness Expo will take place at Lenox Square on Saturday, August 29, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
