can get into the holiday spirit & help a good cause at this event:
Cobb Galleria Festival of Trees 2011 is getting underway at Embassy Suites Atlanta-Galleria. Thirty nonprofits are decorating trees, which go up starting this weekend (November 18-20) and will remain on display through January 5, 2012.
The trees as decorated as part of a contest for the charities–when you stop by to look, you can vote for your favorite tree (or charity) by donating money in envelopes designated at each tree. Last year, the event raised almost $14,000 for the charities; this year, they hope to top $20,000. And whichever tree receives the highest monetary donation gets a bonus donation from Embassy Suites Atlanta-Galleria. The Anniversary Gala Reception takes place on December 15, so head out before then if you’re trying to help a particular charity win.
Bonus: The hotel is serving free hot chocolate in the evening to anyone who comes out, even if it’s just to admire the trees.
