Glover Park & the Marietta Square
FREE. This annual fine arts festival features vendor booths, food, live music, and family fun. Highlights include the Chalk Spot (chalked sidewalk art) and Children’s Art Alley.

♦ Pioneer Days Festival
Aug. 30th thru Sept. 2
Sam Smith Park, Cartersville
$10 admission (kids 10 and under FREE)
This large-scale carnival features midway rides and games, food, and more. If you plan to enjoy the midway rides, the $30 unlimited-ride wristband is the best deal.

♦ Atlanta Black Pride Festival
Aug. 27th thru Sept. 2nd
Multiple locations
FREE. This outdoor festival celebrates diversity with live music, food, art, and more. There are also ticketed events related to Black Pride Weekend.

♦ The Classic Laser Show returns to Stone Mountain
August 31st thru Sept. 2nd, PLUS Sept. 7th
Stone Mountain Park
The end-of-summer bash at Stone Mountain Park includes a return of the Classic Laser Show — and it’s FREE for these four dates! (As you know, there has been a surcharge of $5 for admission to the Laser Lawn in recent years.)
The Classic Laser Show starts at 9:30, when it’s fully dark — but you can come early, spend the day, and enjoy the other attractions.
There is currently a Groupon deal for $19.95 for Attractions Passes — that’s about 50% OFF. And there are NO blackout dates for Labor Day Weekend this year!

♦ Dragon Con Parade
Saturday, August 31st
Downtown Atlanta
The Dragon Con parade is FREE to attend and open to the public.
It happens this year on Saturday, September 2nd at 10 a.m., although the crowds will begin gathering and staking out their spots by 8 a.m.

♦ FREE Splash Pads & Spraygrounds
The splash pads, interactive fountains, and spraygrounds in Atlanta are a fun way to cool off and play in the water, without going to a pool. No matter where you live in metro Atlanta, there is most likely a park with a water feature near you — and most of them are FREE. Don’t forget to bring towels and a change of clothes!

♦ Cheer on the Gwinnett Stripers at Coolray Field
The Stripers take on the Columbus Clippers in an exciting series from August 27th through September 1st! Go to the game on August 30th for Fireworks Friday, and be treated to a spectacular display after the game.
A Stripers game is an affordable outing for families, and a perfect cheap date — with tickets starting at just $8 and special promotion days that bring added value. Everything about the experience is less expensive than a Braves game at Truist Field. Plus, you’re sitting much closer to the action.

Grant Park
This super-affordable, one-day music fest is just $18 in advance, and one child up to 10 years old gets in FREE with each adult ticket purchased. Featuring a range of emerging local, regional, and national talents.

♦ Alice’s Wonderland Re-imagined, at the Atlanta Botanical Garden
Check out this special exhibit, complete with topiary-like statues of Alice, the White Rabbit, a giant chess board, and more. You can also take advantage of Cocktails in the Garden, an evening event that features specialty cocktails available for purchase.

♦ South Fulton Scenic Byway
The South Fulton Scenic Byway has been called the loneliest road in metro Atlanta — although the loop is actually made up of four roads. This scenic drive is a 29-mile loop in South Fulton County, just 16 miles south of the airport. Pack some snacks and go for an air-conditioned drive!

♦ Titanic: An Immersive Voyage
This NEW immersive exhibit just landed at the Exhibition Hub Art Center, on Buford Highway at I-285. It allows you to virtually hop aboard the Titanic and walk through life-sized recreations of parts of the infamous ship.
You can also:
- Discover an impressive collection of artifacts related to the Titanic’s short life
- Relive the ship’s final dramatic moments from a lifeboat in an immersive room
- Dive into the depths of the ocean aboard a virtual submersible and discover the RMS Titanic’s wreck site
- Learn about the story of the Titanic—from its creation to the crash and aftermath
♦ Have a close-up butterfly encounter
You can get up close to hundreds of flying butterflies at local nature centers and gardens. If you’re lucky, you may have a butterfly land on your hand or arm.
Each summer, there are opportunities to enter a butterfly house, also known as a butterfly conservatory or lepidopterarium. (These are different from outdoor butterfly gardens.) They are special facilities designed for breeding and displaying butterflies, often with an emphasis on education.

♦ Horizon of Kufu: Take a virtual reality trip thru ancient Egypt
Horizon of Khufu has landed in Atlanta, completely reshaping the immersive experience. Step back into the golden age of ancient Egypt, where you can relive the reign of King Khufu and explore the iconic pyramids from 4500 years ago.
The 45-minute virtual reality experience costs $27 for adults, and $24 for kids, seniors, military, and students.

Candlelight concerts bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical experience to awe-inspiring locations around metro Atlanta. These are live performances in intimate venues, lit by flickering candles. The concerts range from iconic classical music to tributes to pop artists like Adele and Queen.
