Watch the summer solstice LIVE from Stonehenge this year, without leaving Atlanta! The prehistoric site is currently closed to the public, but will offer live coverage of sunset and sunrise on its social media channels.
Stonehenge is an ancient, mystical site that typically hosts one of the world’s most popular summer solstice celebrations. The landmark attracts thousands of people, who come on the longest day of the year to watch the sun rise behind the Heel Stone.
The solstice sunrise lines up so perfectly with the stones at Stonehenge, that experts believe the builders strategically placed the rocks to showcase the solstices twice a year. (Read a Time magazine report on this theory.)
This year’s summer solstice, as it happens at Stonehenge, will begin at sunset (9:26 p.m.) on June 20, 2020 and conclude a little bit after sunrise (4:52 a.m.) on June 21, 2020.
Of course, Britain’s time zone is ahead of us. So, translated into Atlanta time, you can see the live stream of the Stonehenge sunset at 4:26 p.m. and sunrise at 11:52 p.m. (both on June 2o).
