The lantern parade
Anyone can participate in the parade. The theme is black-and-white, so dress accordingly and bring a lantern. You can also make an owl mask from a free pattern if you’d like — details below.
Participants will begin gathering at 8 p.m. at The Plaza at Colony Square.
The parade will start there at 8:50 p.m.
It will follow a 1.2-mile looped path that includes Peachtree St., 10th Street, and the new Art Walk before returning to The Plaza.

The Black Sheep Ensemble will play live tunes in The Plaza until 10 p.m. and you’re invited to linger after the parade. Food and drink will be available from the restaurants in the Politan Row food court.
NOTE: You can see from the photos that you don’t need an elaborate owl lantern to participate. You can start with a simple round paper lantern and glue on big owl eyes that you create from craft paper. Get some ideas from this Pinterest board or from Google Images.
And check the Parliament of Owls Facebook page to see the discussion of lantern ideas.
Make a lantern from a kit or in a workshop
Ahead of the event, you can come to Colony Square to create your own owl lantern in a DIY workshop.
* Wednesday, July 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
* Thursday, August 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
You can also download a FREE owl mask, print it, color it, and wear it in the parade — or use it to decorate a simple paper lantern from the dollar store. There are two options — here and here.
