Oakland Cemetery concludes its 2022 offering of Juneteenth programming with Picnic in the Park. The event takes place on Saturday, June 25th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This is a FREE and family-friendly event.
Your family will receive an activity bag full of coloring books, art supplies, and a scavenger hunt activity. (One bag per family, while supplies last.)
Then, find a shady spot where you can sit and create your art.
You’re encouraged to bring a picnic meal with you. Oakland will be handing out sweet, cold treats as well.
If you’re among the first 25 families to arrive, your activity book will include a special Juneteenth Edition coloring book from ColorATL. This interactive coloring book includes artwork from 19 Black, Atlanta-based artists to celebrate and increase awareness about the Juneteenth holiday. The artwork themes range from history, community solidarity, solutions for a healthier future, and celebration of African American culture.
All of the activity bags will ainclude mini-scavenger hunt clues that allow you to explore Atlanta’s Black history and the historic African American Burial Grounds. Your family will become history detectives and discover stories of community and resilience at Oakland.
