Here’s a welcome surprise — you can expect a one-time credit on your March electric bill if you’re a Georgia Power customer.
As a regulated utility, Georgia Power cannot exceed the earnings rate allowed by the Georgia Public Service Commission. And the power company made so much money in 2022 that it now must return 80% of excess earnings — which totaled approximately $297 million!
As a result, GA Power will be returning about $119 million directly to customers, via a rebate on the March bill.
According to the press release, Georgia Power’s typical residential customer using 1,000-kilowatt hours per month will receive a one-time credit of approximately $23 on their March bills. But your credit will vary based on your usage last year.
We took a look at our own power bill for March and found a credit of $17 — woohoo!
