[exp] [/exp]Now that it’s January, it’s time to start thinking about preparing 2012’s tax returns. To help you out, here are a few ways to file free or on the cheap:
- If you have a simple tax return, you can use H&R Block at Home Free to file your taxes, and if you get stuck, you can take advantage of free live tax advice. Or through February 15, 2013, you can make an appointment at an office near you and have the tax professionals at H&R Block prepare and file your 1040EZ free (additional fees apply with Earned Income Credit or for local/state forms). A simple tax return excludes self-employment income (Schedule C), capital gains and losses (Schedule D), rental and royalty income (Schedule E), farm income (Schedule F) and shareholder/partnership income or loss (Schedule K-1).
- Filing a more complicated tax return? For a limited, you can save 15% on H&R Block at Home tax software.
- And you can download a pair of coupons for Jackson Hewitt: If you paid $150+ in tax prep fees in 2012, you can pay $50 less in 2013; coupon expires April 30, 2013. Or you can get $20 off tax prep services; coupon expires December 31, 2013.
- FYI–If you use TurboTax to e-File your federal and state tax returns, several versions are on sale on Amazon.
