I had a Cabbage Patch Kid as a kid, but I’ve yet to introduce my own children to them. Saturday, May 8, will provide a good opportunity to do so, as they’re celebrating the grand opening of the new BabyLand General Hospital (a.k.a. the birthplace of Cabbage Patch Kids) in Cleveland, GA.
During the festivities, which run from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., there’ll be free activities, free rides and slides, free Carvel ice cream, free gifts, free performances, and more. The kids will like all of that. Here’s the part that gets my attention though: Xavier Roberts will make an appearance, and he’ll sign original, hand-stitched, soft-sculpture Cabbage Patch kids adopted from May 2-8 (proof of purchase required).

I would love to be able to take my granddaughter as I have one of the original Cabbage Patch Kids but I don’t drive, there’s no bus service to there and everyone else will be working ! She would really appreciate the history of how this home grown Georgia doll became a world wide classic.
