[exp] [/exp]If you’re looking for a Juneteenth Celebration in metro Atlanta, head to Marietta for the Juneteenth Weekend Extravaganza.
From 6:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017, you can relax in Marietta Square’s Glover Park & listen to a free Juneteenth concert, featuring jazz and blues music as well as spoken word performances.
On Saturday, June 17, the festivities continue with the Juneteenth Cultural Festival. From 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., you can listen to live music, participate in family activities, shop at the street vendors, learn about Juneteenth, & more.
And the GospelFest closes out the weekend’s events. From 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, there’ll be gospel music, dance, & more in Marietta Square.
If you don’t know what Juneteenth is, here’s the short version of why it’s a day of celebration mixed with reflection: Juneteenth (June 19, 1865) is considered the date that the last slaves in America were freed.
The Juneteenth Weekend Extravaganza events will take place at Glover Park in Marietta Square. As for parking, it’s free to park in the Mill Street lot as well as the Cobb County Parking Deck (enter off Waddell St.) on evenings & weekends.
