The City of Brookhaven has announced the opening of its first designated open container district. The new district, known as the Dresden Corridor, becomes official on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 5 p.m.
The district runs along Dresden Drive roughly from Peachtree Road to Camille Drive. There are a number of restaurants, bars, and shops along that stretch of road.
An open container district is an area in which you can legally carry your alcoholic beverage with you while walking, as long as you’ve purchased the drink from a business within the district.
There are some restrictions, though, and these are listed below.

Here’s what you need to know:
- Hours for outdoor alcohol consumption are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- You must dispose of any alcohol not consumed by 10 p.m.
- Only those 21 and over can purchase alcohol.
- Restaurants with an alcohol license must dispense your to-go drink in a clear plastic cup containing their logo as well as the Dresden Alcohol sticker.
- Beer and wine can be carried in an amount not exceeding 16 fluid ounces; for distilled spirits it’s limited to 12 ounces.
- You may not carry your drink outside the district limits (there are signs posted).
