[exp] [/exp]This weekend, I stopped by to check out Christmas on Peachtree as part of a Mommy Bloggers event (not that I think of myself as a mommy blogger, but I’d been meaning to go, and it was a good opportunity to explore).
The Mommy Blogger aspect was a natural fit, as the Christmas on Peachtree activities are definitely geared toward kids. My girls had a good time, and I appreciated the opportunity to capture a few adorable holiday pictures. Some of the photos will cost you a bit–They’ll snap a family shot as soon as you pass the ticket counter, and you can have the kids pose for a picture with Santa.
But there are other backdrops that work well for family photos–Before you even walk in the door, you can pose for pictures with the 8-foot snow globe out front at 200 Peachtree Street. Once you’re inside, the Grand Atrium is home to two 24-foot trees. The “Polar Bear” tree has 100+ Coca-Cola polar bears on it, and the “Marilyn Tree” is adorned with images of Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe + pink feather boas. And Cartoon Network characters are on hand throughout the day (mine got to meet Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck–Bonus: They each got sheets of Looney Tunes temporary tattoos).
While we were in the atrium, the girls wrote letters to Santa, did a few crafts, and watched the Symphony of Lights music and lights show, and we checked out Haddon Sundbloom’s iconic images of Santa, which you’ll likely recognize from 1931-1964 Coca-Cola ads. There was other entertainment, too, and they’d often leave the table mid-craft to get a closer look at ethnic dancing (calendar of events).
We spent so much time in the Grand Atrium, that we had to cut our time short in the Children’s Adventure Area. We did manage to visit with Santa, browse the Vendor Village, & ride on Santa’s Snowbound Express. Other wish-we-had-time-for activities: playing with the model train, taking a ride on the Snow Plows (kid-powered scooters), climbing the Arctic Ice Wall, watching a holiday flick in Santa’s Snowtime Theatre, or playing with the Snowball Shootout.
