From November 16-25, 2018, The Gift of the Magi 2.0 will be at Marietta’s New Theatre in the Square. I’d love to catch one of these performances this holiday season–O. Henry’s classic tale has been re-imagined to tell the story of a young couple struggling to make ends meet during the Atlanta Transit strike. Bonus: Thanks to a few The Gift of the Magi 2.0 discounts, you can check out the adaptation on the cheap.
The quick summary: “Marietta’s Theatre in the Square re-imagines O. Henry’s holiday classic Gift of the Magi, setting the tale in Atlanta in the 1950s. This affecting adaptation centers around a local streetcar driver who’s struggling to stay afloat during the Atlanta Transit strike. Christmas is around the corner, and the young man is determined to find a way to buy his wife the perfect gift, without realizing she’s doing the same for him. Magi 2.0 tells the story of love, sacrifice and the blessings that we take for granted. Directed by Joel P.E. King and written by N. Emil Thomas, this award-winning take on the seasonal favorite has quickly become a beloved family tradition.”
