Join ProPublica and Back Pocket Media for Local Live(s), a night of live storytelling and entertainment that will bring together investigative reporters and Atlanta locals.
ProPublica journalists who cover the South will share the stories behind their investigations — intriguing anecdotes that didn’t make it onto the page, how they were tipped off to a problem in the first place, the digging, twists, turns and more.
Think of it as a live podcast, all about stories from the South.
The theme of the show is Unseen: Stories About Secrets, Hidden Truths and Shining a Light into the Darkness.
Guided by host and ProPublica South editor Mara Shalhoup, these reporters will tell the stories behind their work:
- When Max Blau learns a toxic secret about America’s most popular dishwasher detergent, he decides to trace the supply chain from start to finish.
- Nicole Carr receives secret recordings that send her on a year-long journey to understand the rising tension in school board meetings across the country.
- Seth Freed Wessler sees something he’s not supposed to: what life is really like in an ICE detention center at the height of the pandemic.
The event will also feature live music from The Baffour Collective, as well as storytelling from culture journalist Mike Jordan.
