Mary Mac’s Tea Room is an iconic fixture in Midtown Atlanta. It first opened its doors in 1945 as a modest tea room that could seat 75 guests. Over the decades, the beloved establishment expanded to include six dining rooms and a full-service bar.
Jimmy Carter ate there. So did Congressman John Lewis and the Dalai Lama, along with many other well-known personalities and ordinary Atlantans.
You may remember that the historic restaurant suffered a partial roof collapse back in March of 2024, when severe storms rolled through the metro area. News footage back then revealed the piles of debris that littered the sidewalk on Ponce de Leon Avenue.
The storm damage forced the restaurant to close for a time, and then to partially reopen, while two sections were under repair.
This week, Mary Mac’s has reopened completely, with full seating capacity.
And to celebrate its triumphant comeback, Mary Mac’s is welcoming guests with a sweet treat.
From Monday, February 17th through Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, Mary Mac’s is serving up its famous peach cobbler for FREE to everyone who dines there.
Whether you order the fried chicken, the meatloaf, or the shrimp-and-grits, or your own personal favorite, be sure to save room for cobbler!
Remember, Mary Mac’s does not take reservations — unless your party includes eight or more guests. For everyone else, seating is first-come, first-served, so you may have a bit of a wait at peak times.
When is Mary Mac’s open?
Business hours are Monday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant, plus meter parking along Ponce de Leon and Myrtle Street.
The address is:
224 Ponce de Leon Avenue
