Come out and explore! You can join a FREE tour of the Norcross City Cemetery on Sunday, February 4, 2024, starting at 2 p.m.
Local historian Gene Ramsay, from the Gwinnett Historical Society, will lead the tour.
Gene will talk about interesting residents of the cemetery — including Ivey Wingo, a major league baseball player who played in the 1919 World Series, made famous for the Black Sox game-fixing scandal.
You’ll hear stories that you may not have heard before — like the one about a former Norcross mayor who died on Christmas Day in 1915, due to a local butcher and his new shotgun.
You’ll also hear about the downtown fires in 1904 and 1908. You’ll learn the origin of Norcross street names. And you’ll find out interesting facts about the history of the town and the lives of those who founded and built Norcross.
