There is something magical about walking through Oakland Cemetery at twilight. After-dark events like Illumine and Capturing the Spirit of Oakland have proved so popular that Oakland Cemetery is launching a new series of twilight tours this summer.
The Nightfall Chronicles are evening tours that take place on select dates from July through November. They allow you to experience the enchantment of Oakland as the sun sets against the Atlanta skyline.
The one-hour tours have various themes, so there is something for everyone.
Looking for a summer date night?
Check out Love Stories of Oakland, a redux of the popular Valentine’s Day tour that sells out each February.
Or, if you’re a true crime enthusiast, reserve your spot for the Crime through Time tours. You’ll hear about crimes of passion, embezzlement scandals, premeditated murders, and other criminal acts that rocked the city of Atlanta.
If medical stories are your thing, you might enjoy Fifty Ways to Die, with stories of 19th century diseases, the discovery of germ theory, and quack cures of the day.
You can get tickets via Eventbrite — as well as check tour times and prices. In general, tours are in the $20 range once fees and taxes are added. (Oakland members get a steep discount!)
Complimentary parking is available in the gravel lot just across from the main gate, located at 248 Oakland Ave. It’s a small lot, so consider alternatives to driving if you have a choice.
Tours begin at the Bell Tower, and you can check in starting 30 minutes before your tour time.
At some of the tours, your ticket entitles you to a complimentary glass of wine or beer during the half-hour check-in period. (It’s a good idea to have an ID with you, in case you’re asked for it.)
After the tour, your ticket is good for a discount at nearby eateries, including Six Feet Under, Republic Social House, and DAS BBQ.
