Looking for outdoor activities in July? Oakland Cemetery’s Summer Scramble Scavenger Hunt is perfect for families or groups of friends. It could also be a fun, creative cheap date. And due to its popularity in June, it has been extended for one more month — through July 31st!
The self-guided scavenger hunt takes you on a sleuthing tour of historic Oakland Cemetery, as you follow cryptic clues to solve riddles.
It runs all month long, through the end of July.
Here’s how it works:
♠ Purchase, download, and print your Summer Scramble clue packet online
♠ Head to Oakland Cemetery any time the grounds are open — you don’t need a reservation.
♠ Follow the clues and answer the riddles.
The Summer Scramble packet is just $20 (plus tax). The price is the same whether you do it as a solo excursion or in a team.
The package includes a self-guided tour map that usually sells for $5 in the gift shop. You can use it on return visits.
There are three different packets, with different degrees of difficulty.
♠ EASY — kid-friendly clues and riddles, perfect for families, with a hunt time of just one hour
♣ MEDIUM — a bit more challenging, with hunt time of 90 minutes to two hours
♠ DEADLY — try it if you dare! It may take you 2 to 3 hours to finish the scavenger hunt.
Each team that buys a packet will be entered into a drawing for prizes, including tour tickets, memberships, Museum Store gift cards, and more.
Your purchase also enables you to purchase a discounted membership to the Historic Oakland Foundation.
