Tire Amnesty Day is coming up for residents of Dekalb County! If you’ve piled up old tires at home rather than pay the state-mandated recycling fee, now is the time to act.
You can dispose of car and light-duty truck tires legally and for FREE on Saturday, September 14th, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Small tires from bicycles, golf carts, and wheelbarrows are also accepted.
You may NOT bring tires on rims or tires from large trucks and commercial vehicles. Auto repair shops and other businesses are not allowed to participate — this is an event for Dekalb citizens.
There are two locations where you can bring your old tires:
- Dekalb Tax Commissioner’s Office parking lot — 4380 Memorial Drive, in Decatur
- The Seminole Road landfill — 4203 Clevmont Road, in Ellenwood
Tire Amnesty Day is a community effort designed to help everyone. It can:
- Reduce blight and litter
- Divert tires from being dumped in streams and greenspaces
- Eliminate mosquito breeding grounds when water collects in old tires — thereby reducing the risk to Dekalb Citizens of vector-borne illnesses like Zika and West Nile Virus.

All tires collected will be recycled.
